  • This record describes multibeam echosounder data collected on voyage BF2020_v01 aboard the AMC's vessel the Bluefin. The vessel departed Beauty Point on the 11/08/2020 and returned to Beauty Point on the 17/08/2020. The Kongsberg EM2040c multibeam echosounder was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry, backscatter information and watercolumn backscatter. The survey area was ~4km to the south east of Golden Beach was ~6.2 km x ~15.4 km. (Area surveyed including turns totalled 103.7 km2). This survey area encompasses previously surveyed areas (2017 and 2018) and extended seaward to a depth of 26m. The EM2040c provides a 1.3 degree by 1.3 degree angular resolution. The echosounder's nominal frequency is 300 kHz and it operated in dual swath mode. This project also utilised a dual head arrangement enabling a greater swath coverage. Data are stored in *.all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and *.wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. Raw data files include: - 545 *.all files totalling 195GB - 513 *.wcd files totalling 1.35TB Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format are corrected for motion and position. Processed data was corrected to AHD utilising the AusGeoid2020 geoid model. Processed data had outliers removed. Processed line data are available in *.gsf format, and processed bathymetry and backscatter grids in geotiff format. Additional information regarding this dataset, including information on processing streams, is contained in the GSM data acquisition and processing report. Additional data products may be available on request.

    The CSIRO archive of observed atmospheric CO2 concentrations at the Aspendale CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research division measured with the CSIRO developed LOFLO Mk2 instrument. LOFLO is an analysis system built around a commercial LI-COR 6251 optical bench which utilizes NDIR (non-dispersive infrared) gas analysis technology to measure CO2 concentrations in sample air. Consuming smaller volumes of calibration gases (approx. 15ml/min) and requiring much less operator intervention, LOFLO measurements have significantly less bias than traditional NDIR measurement techniques. Measurements using LOFLO first began at Cape Grim in May 2000 and has since been expanded to other global stations with the newer improved LOFLO Mk2. Stations using LOFLO include Cape Grim, Maquarie Island, Otways Basin and Aspendale. CO2 measurements are available from the Aspendale Air Pollution Station for the period 24/4/08 until present, with logged data available as yearly ascii text files in hourly averaged and minutely averaged periods for CO2 concentration, standard deviation, max & min values as well as a baseline flag. Typically file size is approximately 500 KB and 12 MB for an hourly averaged and minutely averaged year of data respectively.

    The CSIRO archive of observed atmospheric CO2 concentrations at the Otway Basin Naylor Field (30km WNW of Peterborough) carbon-dioxide geo-sequestration site, measured with the CSIRO developed LOFLO Mk2 instrument. This study (the first of its kind in Australia) by the Cooperative Research Center for Greenhouse Gas Technologies (CO2CRC) is to monitor the trial geo-sequestration of CO2 into the depleted gas field (Naylor Field) and to observe the environmental effects to determine the viability and effectiveness of CO2 geo-sequestration.     School shark pupping areas in inshore waters of Tasmania and Victoria identified by Olsen in the 1940s and 1950s were re-sampled using gillnets & longlines from 1991-97. Current catch rates are much lower at all sites and pups are apparently no longer present at some sites. Additional sampling of mainly inshore embayments in Tasmania and Victoria failed to locate significant new pupping grounds of school shark. Limited sampling in South Australia and Western Australia failed to catch school shark pups. Relatively few gummy shark pups were caught anywhere in this study; no significant pupping grounds were located and pupping appears to take place over scattered locations in inshore waters. Catch data includes a wide variety of sharks, rays and teleosts species, the most numerous being: Squalus megalops, Platycephalus bassensis, Squalus acanthias, Pseudophycis bachus, Aldrichetta forsteri, Mustelus antarticus, Callorhynchus milii, Galeorhinus galeus, Tracurus declivis, Cephaloscyllium laticeps, Neosebastes scorpaenoides, Platycephalus richardsoni, and Sillago bassensis. The fish catch data was taken from school shark nursery areas in Tasmania and Victoria, this study is split into 2 portions, first a 12 month study (91-92), followed by a multi-year study (92-97).     This dataset contains the processed Dissolved Oxygen Sensor data collected on Franklin voyage FR 02/97. The voyage took place in the Victorian and eastern South Australian coastal waters during 24 January - 4 February 1997. This dataset has been processed and is archived within the CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research Data Centre in Hobart. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the cruise report for this voyage and/or the data processing report (as available). The Dissolved Oxygen measurements from this sensor (mounted on the CTD apparatus) are calibrated against dissolved oxygen measurements from Niskin Bottle samples taken on the same CTD cast. Where present, the Dissolved Oxygen Data are included within the relevant CTD dataset for archiving and/or download.

  • This record describes multibeam echosounder data collected on RV Investigator voyage IN2018_C01, 'RAN Hydrographic Survey' which departed Hobart on the 28th May 2018 and returned to Hobart on the 8th June 2018. The overall focus for this survey was to conduct a modern survey in the primary shipping route through Bass Strait and to To facilitate safe navigation for international and coastal shipping. The Kongsberg EM710 MKII multibeam echosounder was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry and backscatter information (and watercolumn backscatter) near Wilson's Promontory in Bass Strait and during the transit from and to Hobart. The EM710 MKII provides a 0.5° by 1° transmit and receive angular resolution respectively. The echosounder's nominal frequency range is from 40 to 100 kHz. Data are stored in *.all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and *.wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. There are 372 files totalling 119 GB of raw bathymetry & backscatter data, and 241 files totalling 269 GB of raw watercolumn data in this dataset. Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format are corrected for motion and position. Tide corrections were applied to the processed data. Processed data has had outliers removed. Processed line data are available in *.gsf and ascii format, and processed bathymetry and backscatter grids in geotiff format. Additional information regarding this dataset, including further information on processing streams, is contained in the GSM data acquisition and processing report. Additional data products may be available on request.

There are 361 files totalling 60.1GB of raw .all data, and 243 files totalling 391 GB of raw .wcd in the dataset. Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format are corrected for motion and position. Tide corrections were applied to the processed data. Processed data has had outliers removed. Processed line data are available in *.gsf and ascii format, and processed bathymetry and backscatter grids in geotiff format. Additional information regarding this dataset, including further information on processing streams, is contained in the GSM data acquisition and processing report. Additional data products may be available on request. The raw data is offline but is available on request.
